Last night in conjunction with Newbridge Community First Responders (NCFR) and Athgarvan GAA & LGFA, the first of what will hopefully be many AED & CPR awareness sessions for the community of Athgarvan was rolled out.
The idea of the programme is to make members of the community aware of the AED HeartOn A10 which is widely used not only in Athgarvan but Newbridge town. As a bonus to the programme, it also offers community members a chance to understand how CPR works and how to carry out if a situation ever arises. In total, the session ran for 90 minutes.
With the support of Scoil Bhríde National School, the pilot programme was carried out in the GP room under the watchful eye of Paul Maguire (RHS of picture) and Paul Phelan (LHS of picture). Both Paul's have many years’ service with Newbridge Community First Responders and when not teaching others, are part of the active 24/7 First Responder unit within Newbridge and surrounding area.
The feedback from last night was overwhelmingly positive with some of those in attendance advocating for kids from 5th/6th class onwards to be given the opportunity to learn about these valuable lifesaving tools while others commented on it being the most valuable 90mins they ever spent on learning something.
In the coming weeks. Newbridge Community First Responders and Athgarvan GAA & LGFA will hopefully decide on how best to run future sessions. As you can appreciate, everyone involved is a volunteer.
In the meantime, some links below that maybe useful.
