Today South Kildare Shamrocks welcomed Moycarkey Borris (County Tipperary) to the grounds of Athgarvan GAA & LGFA. Another glorious sunny day saw both teams let fly from the opening throw-in.

Moycarkey Borris come from a history steeped in hurling having established itself around the same time as Athgarvan GAA (known as Eyrefield then) in the mid to late 1890s.

Shamrocks knew they were in for a tough time of it today and the first 10 mins while evenly matched, Moycarkey took a 2 point lead.

Both sides exchange tit for tat scores right up to the half time whistle with Moycarkey Borris keeping their 2 point lead and now with the advantage of the sun at their back for the second half.

With only a puck of a ball in it. Shamrocks came out guns blazing and in the first 10 mins fired up 1-2 to turn the tide of the game.

However, this was short lived as Moycarkey Borris stepped it up to level the game 20 mins in.

Tit for tat followed before Moycarkey Borris fired home their 5th goal of the game followed quickly by a point for Shamrocks leaving 2 points in it again to Moycarkey Borris.

And then, in the blink of an eye, it all changed....

A free for Shamrocks 5 mins before the end of the game from 45m out struck well and high, dropped short but enough for the goalkeeper to misjudge under pressure before it rolled into the net.

Shamrocks now seeing victory in sight, put pressure on Moycarkey Borris to keep the ball in their end and were rewarded with another goal with two mins to go.

When the final whistle was blown, the final score ended 6-8 to 5-7 in favour of Shamrocks.

For a team only formed a few months ago and playing a team of high standard and quality as Moycarkey Borris has given the lads the confidence boost they needed to believe they are a force to be reckoned with.

Todays scores came from Rory Aylward (Kilcullen), Dermott McGreevy (Athgarvan), Harry O' Sullivan (Athgarvan), Ely Dunne-Weir (Two Mile House) and Tadhg Giblin (Two Mile House).

Next weekend, Shamrocks (TBC) will play Clane GAA in a friendly before getting back into the league ROUND 4 on Sunday 2nd October.
